Perceptions
Was at a honorary dinner tonight, net worth of the tent estimated at several billion, possibly a few trillion.
About 1/3 of the crowd was very down to earth, fun & easy to talk to. The rest were mostly living behind a shield of superficiality.
It shows that money has nothing to do with presentation. Then again money buys opportunities, what you do with those is up to you.

Driving around Silicon Valley is like driving through manufacturing corporate parks. Lots of companies you have never heard of, but must provide something vital. Though about 100x the number of companies in SV, as 5+ people & their computers doesn’t require much room.

Dressing Well Pays Off
I’m in California for a short week of networking & wine tour.
On the flight my row mate (1st class on miles) has had similar career to mine & is similarly dressed. He now works for a large company & offers to help with a career there.
Arrive at SFO, National Car Rental Executive Row is limited on options. While trying to determine which of the 2 choices I will fit in (&...

Working while in transit
I’m always amazed by the number of people who work on airplanes. You rarely see people pull out the laptop on a bus or car. Why do you feel it’s necessary to work when in the air? Is it lack of time management? Sure flights over 4 hours are longer than a normal daily commute, though still shouldn’t you be relaxed & prepared prior to your next engagement?

The kindest & nicest friend/family, Hospice & radiation Nurse, just had a Glioblastoma tumor cut out. The diagnosis isn’t good. I was supposed to have Easter dinner with her & family, though Saturday night she said a head/sinus-ache wasn’t going away. So she went to the ER, Monday she was in surgery. She’s awake & talking, possibly heading home in a week or so.

mowing the lawn
I love to mow the lawn & I know I’m not alone. My former boss in China, returns to the US every 4-6 months & the first thing he does is the mow the lawn (even though he has a service). He likes the solitude of it, as well as having it done to his specifications. He’s more precise than I (he’s a chemical engineer, so that’s expected), though I do agree it’s one...

kitchens (design)
I love to cook (not so much clean up), a great kitchen is defined by good pans, sharp (proper) knives, a constant heat source, plenty of counter space (for chopping & putting down pans). Optimally you would be buying fresh vegetables weekly & have a minimal fridge/freezer for prolonged cold storage.
Today, most kitchens in new homes are designed as focal point within a house. Kitchens...

Trip Planning, heading out to California on Tuesday. Have a full day to myself on Wednesday, then an event at Stanford on Thursday & off to Sonoma Valley for some wine tasting on Friday through Sunday. Red-eye home Sunday night.
Getting my camera & lenses together, plus clothing requirements. Temperatures look to be the same as mid-Atlantic. Have to find something to do on Wednesday,...

At lunch today, my Uncle & I were discussing Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong & trials/tribulations of travel. The tables next to us were discussing Phillies’ vs Yankees’ & laundry. I often wonder what may go through people’s heads as they over hear my family’s discussions, we rarely talk on mundane life chores. More often it’s travel, international politics,...

Fitness Training Day #36
Today had the primary trainer again today, mostly cardiovascular/metabolic training. Lots of ropes, tossing 20lb ball, 20lb ball slams, & squats. The top of my quadriceps are still killing, since my Tuesday session.
I never understood people who don’t have bookshelves.

Bach’s Prelude to the first suite at Blue Hill Restaurant by fredwilson
I do love great classical music, though oddly I’m more distracted by it. I more apt to listen to it, than eat/read/work.

Fitness Training Day #35
One of my trainers is a new mother, she’s determined to push her clients as hard as she’s been working to get back into shape. In 90 days, she’s in incredible shape post birth.
Though as I’m only in my 35th training day, I’m not at that fitness level yet. My other trainers mix up the muscle exercises in a circuit, whereas she groups them together. My forearms were...
